The Cannery Gifts is located in historic Prairie du Chien - Wisconsin's second oldest city - on Highway 35 between the bluffs and the Mississippi River. 

The Cannery's building, originally the home of The Prairie du Chien City Canning Company, was built in 1912 when local produce was canned in this over 30,000 square foot building. The canning company was built to grow and can sauerkraut and tomatoes. It was then considered the most well-built, modern, and complete factory in the state. A red brick exterior was chosen because it was fireproof and pleasing to the eye. The main building consisted of two stories and a basement; the south wing was completed about a year later.
